recently I bought a BMW Scanner 1.3.6 for serial connection (COMx, not USB) for changing some settings in my 735iA, E38 from 1999.
Because I heard a lot about trouble when connecting this scanner via USB to serial adapter, I took a laptop PC which provides a native COM1 and installed Windows XP SP2, aswell as from the (miniature) CDROM which came along with the scanner, the BMW scanner exe file.
When connecting the PC and the scanner, and OBD2 plug with the scanner and then turning the car key into position 2 (ignition on), then the scanner indicates that power from OBD2 is there, but the K-Line LED always remains red.
Telling the scanner program to search for car units results in error messages like port error or error communicating with hardware.
First I suspected the PC and / or Windows to be faulty, but on the same machine I can start "hyperterm" and send AT commands to COM1, which results in turning the K-Line LED to green temporarily?! So I assume that the standard settings are OK, and, well, I then played around with different baud rates, but this also didn't help.
Can anyone please tell me if there are some drivers which have to be installed prior to connecting the scanner?
Or, are there some more tricks you have tio know for getting it to work?
Thanks in acvance,
