    Hi

    I have an E36 320I 1995 August build BMW.

I have a BMW Memoscanner B100 for reading the fault codes. But guess what. It is mainly for the US BMWs.

There is a note about non-US BMWs. I need to pick the closest US BMW engine that matches mine to input the correct table to get the correct code readout and match.

The problem is that there isn't any BMW E36 320I in there list.

Can anyone advise me on what US engine and year will I have to pick from the list to have an exact match as my M52 2L engine?

The US model is going to be the M50 engine for your Euro model and year but still there is some difference.

    Hi NealP.

I've been doing a bit of searching.

Can anyone confirm that the US 323 has a M52 engine?

If yes from what year did they go over to the M52?

If it is an M52 will all the fault codes match mine?

    Thanks

NealP. Do you know what differences there are between the M50 and the M52 engine fault codes?

Maybe its not such a good idea for me to use this fault reader on this engine if I can't be 100% sure about the codes being correct. What do you think?

I did use it today and it through up a 10, CA and Cb.

Cb are not listed under the 2.5i M50 (K5) in the booklet.

I have cleared the codes to see if they will show up again. They might be just old ones.

Just downloaded the BMW Peake code reader manual and the manual is identical to the BMW Memoscanner B100 manual I have here.

I have downloaded the manual for that one and it says exactly the same thing about none US BMWs. The manuals are the same. So I think I might be stuffed on this one.

    Here is the link. http://www.peakeresearch.com/manuals...201.0%20NA.pdf

In both manuals they go on about an example a 1991 320i 3 series four cylinder made for none US markets and the closest match for that would be a 1991 318i. Did they ever make a four cylinder 320i?

Not here in the UK that I'm aware of...but the new E9x 320i models are four cylinder now.

When the ignition is on but the engine is not running. Do you know what is making the buzzing noise around by the inlet manifold?

Its a buzzing sound with some clicking sounds as well.

Could be the heater valve or the idle control valve.
