Fal, helppppppppppp Any ideas on this xenon problem above? I need to get the headlamp fixed but don't want to order a Ballast or Igniter until I know which might be at fault :(

Assuming that the harness connection to the Xenons is okay and that you’ve got the ignition switched on, increase the settings of your FIFO receive buffer. Do the Xenons throw up any other errors, before the 0009 interface handler error?

Frustratingly I can't view any of the Xenon related errors because I just get the above message, that the control module isn't responding. I have tried with ignition on and off :( I'm downloading the demo of BMW Scanner and see if that picks up the codes - also might try Carsoft?

Also, with my USB/Serial interface, I don't seem to have any FIFO configuration settings oddly - perhaps those aren't relevant for my cable?

Sorry, i should have been a bit clearer - does INPA or Ediabas give you any previous or subsequent errors, when trying to access the Xenon lights i.e. *.prg, *.grp or *.ipo errors? …or is it just the IFH-0009 error?

Are you using the 16-pin socket under the dashboard or the 20-pin socket under the bonnet?

No, just the IFH-0009 error appears - after clicking 'Ok' it then tries the Xenon test for the other side of the car, that also fails, after clicking 'Ok' it tries the previous side again and ends up in an infinite loop.

I'm using the socket under the dash on the drivers side.

I just tried the demo of BMW Scanner (BMW Scanner by P.A.Soft - BMW diagnostic software and used parts reprogramming tool) and the reading of codes is far easier although you need the full version to see the actual errors found - however, I tried it's Xenon tests and they returned the error that the control module didn't exist.

With these tests, does it communicate with the ballast/igniter units or the actual light switch itself? I'm wondering if perhaps the xenon units aren't faulty but the switch perhaps is?

Run a test on the LSZ, see what results you get...

Thanks Fal - I did this earlier today and it did indeed identify a 'Defect' when turning on the Xenon Lights, but it doesn't give any specific detail - it logs an error code but only that the left dipped beam has a defect :( very frustrating!

I guess I'll just have to get replacement igniter and ballast and give it a try!

you guys seem very knowledgable on INPA /EDIABAS and hopefully can help me ,I'm trying to clear my airbag error on my 2004 E60 and have installed programme using your very useful instructions ,seems to be operating ok but and on this and other tasks it throws up a IFH 0009 code ,I have installed the programme on an old laptop running XP home and using a 16 pin 'BMW cable' to USB via Fleebay as others have ,is it my interface type is wrong ?
    Thanking you all in advance.

IFH-0009 is normally caused by an ECU(s) not responding on the diagnostic network. An E60 built before March 2007, will require a K-Line on Pin 7 and 8 of the interface, so check this. Then you need to check your interface type settings, in Ediabas.ini (C:\Ediabas\Bin). It should, as a general rule of thumb on Fleebay interfaces, be set to STD:OBD. Let me know how you get on, if the problems still happens, we can work through other options.

Good advice here. Try STD:OBD and STD:USB and see which one gives the least errors. Unfortunately you will get some IFH-0009 errors especially when doing high data rate work, such as viewing and monitoring 10 DME readouts. I have not found a solution other then to hold Enter on the OK button to limp through.

I believe the fault is related to the sheer volume of data and some messages getting lost. It may be possible to increase the FIFO buffer size to improve the situation. It depends on where the messages are being lost at.
