I'm working on it. They are not modifying them. They are modifying the eBay title to include BMW and modifying the price accordingly. It's two chips inside, PL2303 USB-RS232 and Melexis TH3122 K line transceiver.

I have one. Works great for E46 as linked in the post#1 guide to installing INPA.

To answer your question, to go from USB to ADS the following would be needed in the adaptor.

    1) DTR support
    2) Echo support
    3) COM port hacks in EDAIBAS.ini and OBD.ini

    Steps I will take
    1) See if INPA is waggling the DTR line in the USB adaptor
    2) Mess with EDIABAS.ini and OBD.ini until it does
    3) wire up a system of levers, pulleys and string to make the DTR line route the K line data to the L line. Sort out the echo too.

your gonna need an ADS interface or the ADS/OBD switchbox interface which is just as cheap and does twice as much...

That's what I'm using . Open it up and compare it to the pics in the guide linked in post 1. It'll be one USB-RS232 device and a TH3122 K line transceiver. They may have shorted OBD2.7 OBD2.8 together. I also reckon OBD2.15 is not populated.

To use it on your E36, set your ediabas.ini to STD:OBD, and set the com port & UBAT in OBD.ini and add serial.reg FIFO buffers as shown in the guide.

your cars are ADS interface cars not OBD2 you need an ADS interface or an ADS/OBD switchbox if you want to connect to all the cars systems..

its more expensive to get hooked up to your older cars thn it is with later OBD2 cars...

ADS switchbox (£54) and a serial port laptop and a copy of INPA and your off and running..
330i sport a big chunk of berlin...

At least it's easy to get an ADS interface these days. Mine set me back £150.
