Inccidentaly when going through a test schedule for No engine start possible it ran a clutch switch test which said to operate and not operate alternatively and displayed no operated throughout even when i was so does this mean anything, why would this car with no cruise control or depress clutch to start have a clutch switch?, thanks guys.

They can have them to figure out whether you are coasting or changing gears, and it'll try to rev match for you.

OK from reading a lot about this im pretty sure the fuel injection pump is knackered, does anyone know if i replace it with a second hand unit will it need coding to the car before it will start as the nearest bmw specialist is over 100 miles from me, thanks.

Ok an update on this, got the car running after changing the injection pump but it has a strong vibration at idle, goes away when i increase the revs by 100-200rpm and is fine when reved, i think i recall this was happening before the injection pump went but i dont remember it being this bad as the car really shakes, any ideas as its so close now, thanks.
