Hi guys have a big problem, my 1999 bmw 320d died while driving at about 60mph about a week ago and has not started since. The car has been in the garage since monday and the only fault codes are glow plug circuit and something to do with the clutch, clutch switch or something (but car has neither cruise control nor do you need to depress the clutch to start)The garage has just about given up with it as first they found no power at the fuel pump in the tank and after using a wire to get the in tank pump working now there is no pressure at the injectors. The code from another scanner bosch was 8 main preheater relay signal improbable. The nearest bmw garage dealer or independent is over 100 miles away so would not be financially viable to have it towed there.I wouldnt mind but i spent over £2000 getting a new turbo and the engine rebuilt about 6 months ago, my question is would it be worth buying the bmw dis software from ebay, how do you hook it up to the laptop as they seem to use a com port which seems quite rare on laptops. Can you use a comport adapter, would it be likely to read codes other than the ones the garages scanner has and can you read live data from it as if not the car will prob have to be scrapped.

You can get a USB INPA lead (that's what DIS uses)
Use INPA for fault code reading, DIS takes forever to set up.

Not on an E46, but you will want a 16-20pin adaptor.

ok there are quite a few fault codes but most not relating to the non starting so i will just list the one that i think could be the problem, in the in the fault codes
10 dde: Power supply undershot fault frequency 48.
In the dis test schedule it has come up as
    DDE - 10 DDE Power supply - DDE voltage undershot - -- - -- - Currently not present - -- - 1.at:engine speed 0.0
    ? DDE main relay B1361__D3REL
=> Positive and ground supply B1361_D3UBH
When i test it it just sort of goes round in a loop checking the battery voltage asking if the setpoint has been reached then asking to start the engine which i cant do, does nothing if i just crank it.So does this mean a power supply issue to the dde or do i need a new dde, im guessing these are coded to the car so can these be coded using the bmw tech software?

The codes tell you which areas are not funksioning right. So by what i see you have an electric problem.
    My BMW history= E36 318IS, 323I,Mini Cooper, E46 320 D SE and now E39 530D. awesome
