I've just brought a BMTechnics lead and downloaded their software package. I won't be doing any serious stuff, just want to be able to check fault codes and keep an eye on DPF and injectors etc. One thing I didn't think of is that the car battery needs to be on charge, according to BMTECHNICS info. I live in a Cul de Sac and the car is 100m from house, so it's a problem getting power to it. Is it essential to be charging the battery, if I'm not going to be fiddling with the car for hours and with some of the tests like DPF pressures and Injector values, I presume the engine will be running, so should sort the problem.

i think thats more to do with if the batt voltage drops to a critical level midway thru any reprogramming n stuff your in the shit, normal basic diags ya only viewing none critical data...any resetting of stuff or sequence testing ide do it at the begining of a session...

same ethos goes for a laptop running on soley battery aswell if it dies midpoint your in the shit again...

garages dont put cars on charge for basic diags work unless the battery voltage starts to drop which you can continually check with the software anyway....

Thank you kind sir, good to see you back. I won't be doing any recoding, don't trust myself not to Feck things up. Just wanted to see DPF and injectors, battery etc. plus basic diagnostics if any problems. Pain in bum car being so far from house, nice quiet setting but even washing car is a mission.

You can do nearly everything with it running usually, just avoid anything with EWS on it and dont reset or test any engine related parameters with it running either, cos they dont like it and trust me yal shit house bricks when the engine throws an absolute wobbler if you do....
