    Annoyingly, although I now have both those files, I still get the same SYS-0002 error: ecu object not found. Do you think this could be because the DME came from another car?
    There are only two products required to make the universe work properly: Duct tape and WD40. 


    If it moves (and it shouldn't): duct tape. 
If it doesn’t move (and it should): WD40.

    Everything else is just stuff.

    Add this to your Ediabas\ECU folder and run the IDENTIFIKATION job in Tool Set 32 (select all the possible results window, on the right). Post the results.

    UPDATE: Tool32 connects to most of the "jobs". It's just that some need the engine running, other don't. It even read the VIN correctly, so I'm guessing it's something wrong with INPA?

    Guys, one last question: is WINELDI important or not? Most DIY's will say to skip it but in INPA.ini there's this bit which makes me think:

    Especially the Decodiertabelle (decoding table?), sounds like it has something to do with the codes. Anyone knows what WINELDI does? Not very hopeful, but maybe here lies on of my INPA probs.

    Posted the results, any ideas mate? I'm pretty much stuck now, been reading loads and loads of threads but no luck so far.

    I also took the rounds connector apart and I have this pinout:

    I’ve got a couple of ideas for you. Firstly, i’ve attached a PDF file for you, to print off and take out to the car with you. It’s a list of all the jobs that INPA runs, in the DME331.ipo file that you can’t get to work. Use Tool Set 32 to run each job individually in DM331K20.prg. It doesn’t matter what the results are, as long as the job(s) run correctly. If not, then we know that it’s a communication error and not a problem with the .ipo for INPA. Secondly, if you look at the pin-out for a real Schulz Systemtecknik ADS interface…
    • Pin-18 goes to Pin-80 on the Engine ECU (Connector X6000)
    • Pin-1 goes to Pin-47 on the Engine ECU (Connector X6000), Pin-20 on the Instrument Cluster (Connector X16), Pin-18 on the Climate ECU (Connector X16155) and Pin-11 on a Gearbox ECU (Connector X8500).
    • Pin-7 goes to Pin-15 on the Instrument Cluster (Connector X17)

    Basically, everything worked in Tool32, no errors what so ever. I randomly tried few other tests on the vanos, that worked too. What next now?

    Tried installing DIS, no luck with that one either - says no diag head connected and it doesn't even notice that the battery is on - so I might have to stick with troubleshooting INPA.

    LE: DIS now works, but it's dead slow! At this point, I'm pretty sure it's the non EWS which is causing all the problems. Basically, the .ipo/.prg files were written for EWS 325's, and mine is a non EWS. DIS can skip the EWS error and carry on, INPA can't. And apparently, there's no old non EWS file for 325's. Stuck.

    If it moves (and it shouldn't): duct tape. 
If it doesn’t move (and it should): WD40.

    Everything else is just stuff.

    Go into C:\EC-APPS\INPA\SGDAT and try running both DME338DS.ipo and DME338K2.ipo - they're both variants of the troublesome DME331.ipo...
