Hi I have been having trouble starting my car to the stage where an indie has got it & it wont start at all, they say they cant get any error codes & can't access the ecu.

Two weeks ago my mrs. phoned me up at work to say the car wouldn't start. I asked my mate to call round & see if there was anything he could see & when he tried it it started 1st time. Put it down to my mrs. & left it at that. 3 days later, same problem. Engine cranking merrily away but wouldn't fire. Battery eventually starts to drain & it starts throwing all sorts of faults on the i drive like low oil, abs failure etc. on just about the last push of the button before the battery is flat the car fires up, drive perfectly & starts for the remainder of the day. All reported errors disappear. Tried it at 11pm before I go to bed & starts instantly.

Following morning it wont start again..........

Battery is fine, tried a fully charged new one & had same problem. glow plugs fine also.

Fault codes I have seen on my mates scanner were....

    486D control unit software fault
    46D1 control unit internal 4
    46D3 control unit internal 4
    4A61 EWS control tampering

Managed to get it going again on the last push of the button & drove it to my local indie & they cant find any fault codes & cant access the ecu.

    Any Ideas anyone ??

Have you tried leaving the ignition on without pressing the start button for 15 seconds ?

I have been reading up on the HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) issues widely reported in the states and the symptoms sound similar, but the car will start if you follow the earlier instructions. May help or at least rule out one common area of trouble.

    I have tried that thanks.

it seems to start just when you think to yourself "I give it one more go"

once started no smoke, perfect tick over & runs spot on.

It seems once it has gone to "sleep" it doesn't want to wake up.

managed to get my car back from the indie & it did start eventually. They were useless tbh & when I drove the car away it had no power at all. I should have told them it wasn't like this when I took it to them (they had it a week) but I lost all confidence in them as a garage. Cost me £120, car still has the same problem but now has now power. Never going there again.

Lets see how stratstones in derby have to say.

just awaitin the dreaded call. I reckon it will over a grand. I just know it.

Mark........ I see you had the same wheels as I have but now have some 225's is that a winter combination or just changed from RFT's ??
