    Hi
I'm a bit confused about these pc based diagnostics. Someone on the bay is selling USB pc diagnostic cable which you plug into the socket in the car and USB port of your pc. No interface or anything else needed (apart from software) but what's carsoft, gt1, inpa??? Some need serial port and so I will need serial to USB adaptor which some say works and some say it doesn't. I would be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction .
    Many thanks

You are better off with BMW specific rather than a generic OBD2 code reader.

USB adapters work with most interfaces, it just makes an already complicated process more difficult.

What was your budget and what were you hoping to use it for?

You may need a later verison of Carsoft - e.g. a legitamte one costing about £300 as I'm not sure if the older versions floating around the web will cover the E60 so be sure to check if you order from Ebay.
