I had a search on the forum but could not find quite what i was after.

I have recently retrofitted the BC indicator stalk and about to start the retrofit for Automatic Air Con. I know that my ECU has to be recoded, I got a quote for both to be done for £50 quite a fair price i think but my question is has anyone had any experiance with the cheap ones off ebay will these do the job that i want?

Honestly, just pay the £50 to have them done. I bought software/lead and spent the 5-6 hours doing the software install (which didn't work) then ended up formatting my pc then installing it again which worked this time. SSS is not particularly easy to use, it takes forever to load cos it's run on a virtual machine, and you can brick your car very easily. I had problems with my immobiliser the first time I tried to use it. Let someone else do it for you for such a reasonable amount!
Tomorrow is just yesterday with a different problem.

Retrofit is very easy if you have DIS running on a computer or laptop. You can find instructions for how to get/install DIS on the .com version of this forum. On that forum there are instructions that make installing it very easily.

The cable's a little on the expensive side. There are cheaper ones available

Cheers for the link. Have you used one yourself? I got DIS up on my laptop running win7 using vmware. Then the instructions went on to say that I needed INPA working ( not Win7 compatible) looks like I'm going to be digging an xp laptop out from the loft or duel boot.

As far as I have read INPA works just fine on windows 7 (32bit). I have also seen people that have figured it out on the 64bit version.

yeah those cables work great. You need to make sure you get one that is BMW specific.

I'm going to have to look at how to get the 64 bit working.
