Would a smoke test of the inlet system show up a dodgy inlet manifold gasket? If so my local indy can do this.

And yes the car has been started with both the MAF and the inlet vanos solenoid connections disconnected (separate times). Neither made any noticeable difference to the running of the vehicle.

i heading more towards an iffy HVA myself on this one...

    question
presume it does it from cold yes?
does it do it engine still hot on restart if left a couple of hours?
does it do it if you turn it off and restart engine straightaway hot?

you changed the oil or done an engine flush at all???

ide check the exhaust system aswell for any potential leaks which are closing up on getting some heat up it...

head sez HVA but i just can't see it tho ide expect more than just a burn failure code...

Oil change was done less than 1k ago (3 months).

Indy reported tapping coming from the top end, but described it as very quiet. This could link into the HVA theory.

I have only ever had it do it twice in one day. That was started at 7am and shut off at 730am and started again at 9pm.

Other than that it never does it in the same day.

The misfire occurs while the idle is at approx 1k, once the revs drop down to 700rpm it settles out.

im perplexed i know these cars sometimes can run lumpy from cold by definition mine does now and again and me mates but they never throw a code tho...

ive read somewhere that an iffy CCV can cause missfire too...

the missfire time and length and when to me sez its only doin it while its running open loop myself which makes me suspicious i just cant see it being a HVA but ya never know with these feckin things...
