    So I have received my EWS editor and it's very good I'd say idiot proof and can recommend XCAR360 as very efficient. It cost me less than £75 to get all 4 keys back, they used DHL so it took about a week from order to having it in my hand.

    Anyway I have read the old ews and new ews. I took the DME password and the synch code from the new EWS and wrote them to the old EWS. I also corrected the VIN and milage. Very nice.

    My next project is to get a spare DME configured and I want this to be as cheap as possible so if I can buy just a DME on it's own from ebay whic will be cheaper than a whole dme/ews/keys/locks kit. So my basic question is how do I read the password and synch code from a bosch me 9.2 DME 7508292 bosch 0261209007? Here are some thoughts:

    1) use INPA
    I am getting an ECU rejected error with version 5.00
    Does anyone have any experience with other versions

    2) read from EWS
    Only works if you have a matching EWS and you need EWS reader and decoding software (xprog-m or EWS editor lite or AK90) so not an option for this project.

    3) use BMW scanner 1.4
    Does this work: claims to be able to do it for the MS43 but I am sceptical about the BOSCH ME 9.2
    Any offers?

    4) programme to virgin EWS
    Will this work?
    * take a base EWS file and virginise it (factory reset in EWS lite)
    * Use INPA or DIS to programme a new EWS which should burn in the password from the DME
    * Read the pasword from the EWS
    * see what it does with the sync code

    5) read DME dump
    * read DME dump to bin file
    * extract password and variable codes
    * this can only be done with xprog-m or similar using the BDM points (need to open DME and do some soldering)

    Any help much appreciated. I have the following tools available:

    * INPA 5.00
    * Easy DIS 4.7
    * BMW scanner demo 1.4

    Aaargh - I've broken INPA and DIS by installing EWS Editor.
    Why is nothing ever easy?

    You need another Ecu as yours has a broken tracking side the multilayer board
    This then needs blanking whack is very hard on a me9 Ecu as it sector lock on the flash chip but can be done
    This way you can use the original keys and ews with it's car I'd
    Why do you suspect a broken track in the board?
    What would lead to this sort of issue?

    we do a lot of ecu repairs on bmw cars and these me9 ecu's have a command problem with the pcb problems
    we have reused many of these me9 ecu's and also blank these so they can be reprogramed by the dealer or a good indy with Autologic

    Ok got INPA and DIS working again by changing back to com1 for my FDTI driver (phew)

    process 1)
    - it's generally agreed that you cant read this directly from the ECU via OBD.
    You need to get a dump and read from there (process 5)

    process 4)
    - doesn't work either: INPA and DIS don't recognise an EWS editor lite factory reset as a virgin EWS - there must be something which is a burn once.
