    Hey guys,
Ive had my 728 sport for 2 months, its been lovely to drive something so well put together (for a change). This last week though Ive had the 'Engine failsafe prog' appear.
The first time, it came on, it went off after seconds and there was no noticeable fault.
The second time, it came on, the engine was running rough and it would only go very slow (limp home mode - I suspect)
Yesterday it came on, and stayed on. Engine seems to be missing and again, would only go very slow.

My question is, If I were to buy a generic fault code reader (gendan possibly) would it be any good or would it need to be a BMW specific reader?

Im fairly cpable in the garage so if it were something fairly straight forward, to replace, I would give it a go myself. Otherwise I would rather steer away from main dealer and go to a local specialist - fault there is - I dont know of one in the Bp Auckland / Durham area!

We all know how cold it has been recently - wondered if a sensor had frozen! Clutching at straws, I know, but the ABS / DSC seems to have frozen on a couple of occasions recently.

    Your thoughts guys.

    Thanks

    Dave
