    Rule of thumb...if you have a round 20 pin port in your engine bay, then that's the one you should get. If you don't then you need the 16 pin version. Try an get a BMW specific reader.

    Thanks, i have the round under bonnet jobby does that mean OBD 1 OR 2?

    I thought 20 pin round under bonnet plug was OBD1 16pin in car socket OBD2?????????

    The 20 pin connector on OP's model is OBD2. BMW started to use the standardised 16 pin OBD2 connector after year 2000. Pre 95 models will have OBD1

    Thats really confused me now! There is only the big round plug under bonnet nothing in the car to plug in.
    Woried if i buy the wrong reader and do some (expensive) damage.
