Hello!Im looking to buy a code reader and was wondering if Autel MaxiScan MS509 would be worse consideration? It says on the wed that it would work, but will it really?!!It cost around GBP80, so would be a good buy...only if it really works. How can I find out if my BMW is OBD2 compliant?!
    Thank you!

    I'm glad you asked.
It's hard to tell, as it wasn't required to be OBD2 compliant until 2001 so many had this feature deactivated.

Some cars did have it earlier than others, so there is a chance it could work, but also a chance it missed out.

Hopefully there will be people with actual experience and results about, as i think some 2000 318is did get it working.

    Hopefully.
There is another card reader by Autel: MaxiDiag® EU702
It seems more advanced but is also priced 2x more and I think if MaxiScan MS509 doesn't work, the more expensive one will not work too.
My car was produced at the end of 2000, but I have not got a clue about if its compliant with that OBD2 or not.

It won't matter how much you spend on an OBD2 scanner, if the car has it disabled, none of them will work

I've got the Autel EU702 and it's a great piece of kit. It will read/reset all BMW specific codes even if your car is not OBD2. It will also read OBD2 codes from any compliant vehicle. Also this scanner will read/erase codes on VAG, Opel and Mercedes vehicles.
It will also read and clear Airbag and ABS codes as well.
