I'm in the process of purchasing a scanning tool, but can't quite decide which one.

It dosent need to be all singing an dancing but clearly don't want a dodgy market job!!

    I have a 2000 E46

    Any suggestions?

Best one to buy which will read dedicated BMW codes is one from Peak Research. I recommend you get the R5/FCX-3-16.

I've had a look at this one and it claims to only work 2001 models onwards.. Is this right?

Do you have the 20pin connector in the engine bay?

Just checked and can't see it.

I've just tried an obdll/eobd scanner and that don't work either.

Not sure what else to try !!!

Mine's a July 2000 E46. I got a Peake R5/FCX-3-U. It covers BMW 1987 - 2007 so I can lend it to mates with earlier cars (Or posh mates with later cars!). I paid £139 for it about 2 weeks ago.

It has the connectors to plug-in both under the steering wheel and under the bonnet.

Hence my question about the connector. You can spend £140 on a universal one or £100 on the one suited for your model.
