Aye, I'd recommend going with a genuine MAF too, not worth the hassle of buying X amount of aftermarket rubbish only to end up buying an original.
As for me, I'm changing the vacuum pipes as I go along and leaving the sensors, valves etc until I know all the pipes are good, (apart from the crankcase breather valve as I've got the top inlet mani off). I've also cleaned the MAF with component cleaner. All air intake pipes are good.
If, when I get through all this I've still got problems I'll have to bite the bullet and go to a good local indy, at least I've got the time just now to have this part of the car in bits. Will let you know how I go on.
Hmm. You could give em a go. See if you can get a specific part number for the ECP Bosch unit.. this is the one you're looking at? : Bosch BMW | Euro Car Parts UK
need to compare it to : RealOEM.com * BMW E46 318i Mass air flow sensor
The part number listed on realoem is BMW specific, not sure what the Bosch number would be. ECP may be able to help you out, certainly looks in the correct ball park price wise.
However, I have found a part from Europarts, Bosch. Bosch BMW | Euro Car Parts UK
with 30% off its £95.
GSF works out £75
Air Mass Sensor
Is this the part no I need to ref to? 13621433565.
Anyone heard of Archer Trans who are an aftermarket supplier?
This is the cheap GSF MAF I am considering replacing with my existing one.
