    Hi mates

I bought this P.A. Soft BMW Scanner V1.3.6 diagnostic tool last week. I installed the software and then connected it to the RS232 (serial port) on my laptop and then ran the software after plugging in the OBD2 to my 1999 E46 318i to reset the engine light. My COM port1 is working prefectly but I got this error message...'No communication with unit. Do you want to try again?'.

Could anyone help me to sort out this connection problem please?

    Cheers

    Zak

plug it in to the car and turn the ignition on to pos 1 or 2, or full if you want live data
    before running the software...

    should solve your problems

    as for step by step

cant really give those but its pretty straight forward
run the scan, it will then find relevant modules and data that it can find and list any error is there are some then click on those errors to see detailed info
make a note of the scan first by clicking on view report
it will generate a text file of the data
clear the errors one by one
and anything left remaining is a current issue

i have version 1.4 and works no problem for me,was able to code my second hand lcm and make alarm chirp on arming and disarming.mine is usb connected, not serial port.make sure you connect the scanner to the car first, look for red light that means its getting power as it is powered from the car and not the laptop.then run the software then connect to laptop.but on first installation you will have to install the proper drivers.then you should be good to go.i also have an e46.just google bmw scanner 1.4.0.With version 1.4 you can do more.If anyone is buying 1.4 then download the program from p.a soft full version as there is a demo and you dont want that and use the drivers that come on the cd.

I think it is 1.4.0 that you need for e46's.
