Hi guys, sorry to jump in on a thread but thought it better than starting a new one - besides, what I need is the same as the OP so I guess sharing the knowledge is better than nothing.

I have an ELM327 ODB-II (or ODB2 if you want to say it that way) reader and I have SCANXL Pro Software on my PC (Which has the Ford Enhanced Information).

I have plugged this into my 1999 3-Series (E46) which has the Airbag Light on, and got some nice information. Obviously I didn't get the information regarding the Airbag though as after speaking to the guys on the PalmerPerformance Forums told me that ABS and Airbags etc are Manufacturer Specific.

So, I am in the market for a new reader. I know a Mobile Mechanic who will be able to tap in with his Snap-On gear and various other tools, but I want to be able to read codes and diagnose myself. If the price is right for a reader (which I suspect it will be) then I will get one.

    My two questions are:
    1) What readers do I need. There are a lot of readers about, but I specifically need to be able to get into the Airbag Fault (and possibly turn off the light) and also reset the Service Due In xx miles notice.

    2) What software will I need. The abbreviations of the software mean nothing to me, so could do with knowing what they mean and where I can get the software from.

Could anyone help with this please??

    hi
check out bmw scanner 1.3.6 as a ebay buy,
i bought one for my 1999 auto e46 to reset my airbag light trouble...
worked a charm to reset them, but they will come back on if you have a real fault. Mine came down to the door wiring in the airbag connector inside the weather proof cable tidy near the hinges. Only trouble with the bmw scanner is it will provide the code but no information to were to look. with abit of help from the net it can be worked out. So if you looking for airbag reset on the cheap an u dont have a major faults bmw scanner 1.3.6 is your answer. Since i bought this i have used it on a cpl of bmw's and it does far more than you will ever need....
