    Hi guys,

I want to find out about the ODB connector on my 01/01/99 E39 Touring . . . it have a round one underneath the bonnet and a round one under the steering wheel . . . Whats the crack? Are they both the same? If not what is the difference?

My mate has carsoft and he has an 02 Derv salon, but he does not have the underbonnet one . . .

Can I use his cable etc with my underdash socket?

    Many thanks in advance.

I don't think the one under your dash will be round. It will have limited connectivity compared to the 20 pin one in the engine bay. In your friend's case, the round connector is obsolete and full connectivity will be under the dash 16 pin connector.

    .

i disagree with the above post.

you will find you have around 20 pin in the engine bay and a 16 pin type under the dash.

you will find that for diagnosis you will have to use the round one in the engine bay .

Need to read my reply to him again. His friend has the 16 pin, not him so I wasn't referring to his car.
