You can use a £6 USB OBD2 interface for an E46, with a £6 16 pin to 20 pin adaptor if your car has that socket under the bonnet. Find my guide entitled BMW INPA success on here.

DIS is a lot of work, requiring virtual machines and LAN USB bridges. You can use NCS Expert to code CKM. Navcoder will also support CKM soon.

USB interfaces wont work with inpa set in ADS mode...and as ive mentioned the 15 pin wire is not wired on an OBD2 16 pin adaptor/ interface.. so you cannot access all the modules...you have to connect in ADS and with an ADS compatible serial interface on E36 cars which are pre OBD2 or a crossover car.
330i sport a big chunk of berlin...

see if pin 15 is populated in your socket under the bonnet..

an ADS/OBD switchbox interface is another method of guarenteeing connection to pre OBD ADS modules and later crossover and OBD cars..

I agree. I have many adaptors open in front of me now. The RxD line does not yet have a solution outside of the ADS adaptor with the DTR controlled gate. I am working on it.

a newer vista laptop will not have a serial port on it...better off with an old shagger cheapy lappy with a serial port and XP as vista can be problematic aswell...

Confirmed that the RxD line cannot be stimulated with a diode or a short between RxD and TxD. A Gate via a GAL must be used in conjunction with the DTR line to route commands to RxD for the modules that are not responding.

It's getting dark now. I shall ponder this some more in the next few weeks. It may be possible to do a mod to a USB OBD2 adaptor and use it for all modules.

well thats gone right over my head, il stick to known facts that nobody has come up with a cheaper alternative to an ADS interface or an ADS/OBD switchbox as yet

I'll try and get round to it soon mate and post it up here if I get it going. OP: You probably need that £85 interface at this time.
