    I have a 1999 E36 316i 1.9l Compact, with a few problems

I need to get it scanned but thought it may make more sense to buy an OBD2 scanner which i can use over and over and help other people out rather than just take it to a garage.

Searching for one seams a bit confusing, and not sure if i need an adapter too, so was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?

Presumably you've only got the round pin socket under the bonnet on your car, which can be troublesome to connect to with cheap scanners but one I know definately works (or at least did on my 96 728i and my dads 98 535i) is the maxidiag EU702.
I think it's only about £100-150 and does the airbags
