Far too many electronics in a modern car to allow that! the key codes from these things are held in the Engine ECU and they comunicate with the keys though the car! very high tech and no way of starting the damn thing using the "old fashion methods" even if you turned the engine, it wouldn't start

Testing it is the easy bit bruv! getting it off is the hard bit, as I don't have the facilities, if i know for sure it was the starter motor, i would get a second hand one, and get a mate , who has a garage to fit it, but i don't want to pay for a breakdown truck to take it, with out being absolutley sure

    Hi Mathew,
As you seem to have a wealth of knowledge, could this following scenario have happened , ( because it has happened on a rover 2litre vetese coup i once owned ) we live in an area where there are a lot of nasty sleeping policeman, could it be possible that a lead to the solaniod has dropped off with all the banging going over them ? I know ! I know i'm clutching at straws now!

still hav'nt worked out how to put posts up on this site!
Thanks guys for all the advice! I ftnaly got it sorted! I found a remote garage who had the equipment to check the imobiliser. They had it for an hour, rang me and said imobiliser is fine, but I will need a new starter motor in the near future! the car is running at the moment! so the total cost was £30 for recovery, £40 to have the car running. So got the car home, then did a search on line for a second hand starter motor. Found a place called Quick start on the Slough trading who rebuilds them. So! ! paid them a visit and it was run by a really nice Indian chap, after a little haggling he agreed to fit and supply a starter motor in exchange for mine. for £130!!!! what a result!!! whoop de do!! thanks agatn for all the advice!!! and any body in my area that has a simular prob, I am happy to pass on the info!!
