    Hi,

    I have a E36 316i Compact 1998 and I am trying to diagnose a fault.

I have bought the following from ebay:

BMW USB OBD Cable lead Ediabas Inpa GT1 DIS SSS Progman
eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

BMW Diagnostics Cable EOBD 16 - OBD 20 pin Adapter Ediabas Inpa DIS NSC Expert
eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

I have installed INPA correctly [I think !] and when I hook everything up....nothing !

After a bit more research, it seems I may be missing a vital piece of equipment...an ADS/OBD switchable interface (BMW INPA / Ediabas OBD & ADS Interface | eBay)

Is this the case ? I don't mind buying another lead but just want to make sure I actually need it as 60 quid is a lot of money to pay if it is not needed !

Any help or advice would be much appreciated...

You should be able to at least access the DME with your setup no?

And the 60 ADS device will need a factory fitted serial port. USB RS232 is not sufficient.

    Hi,

No, INPA just flashes like it is trying to connect ?

I am unsure as to whether to buy the ADS/OBD Interface. I want to be able to run full diagnostics and clear fault codes. Should my current 20 pin >OBD>USB setup be able to do that ?

    Thanks
