Having failed to get the Torque app for Android talking to my 1997 323i via a cheap bluetooth adaptor and 20 to 16 pin adapter cable, I'd like to know what protocols are supported and if there is technical information available on them?

I intend to possibly develop an app myself to talk to it, having done a bit of serial over bluetooth development at work.

It's complicated. ODB2 only came to Europe in 1999. However the yanks had it from 1996. So your DME and EGS support ISO9141 k-line on TxD2 but we think the ODB2 commands are suppressed in the firmware. INPA commands still work over that bus.
