jus looking at the diagram... shouldn't the clock do that for me? an also pin14 of X20 didn't lead to anywhere, was jus a dead end, only had a wire on one side of the plug an nothing on the ECU side of it

    Yes, that's correct.
The brown red wire is the speed signal output, and is passed into the clocks.

It then seems that the clocks decide whether to output the speed signal to the other components depending on if the ABS ECU is happy.
It picks up a signal from a rear wheel sensor and in theory than passes the signal on.
From what I can tell, and confirmed from the posts above is that the format of the signal is the same, so bridging those wires removes the intervention from the ABS and instrument cluster.

ah kl, thanks TheEnd, was wondering what i was doing when playing with these wires lol
so pin 4 of instrument cluster (black plug) is the incoming speed signal which is then passed onto the ECU through pin9 of x20 then?

I have a wiring diagram that shows them slightly differently, but this is a 1996 manual, and might be US based.

X271 is the small plug, and you can see pin 4, Speed signal and E= input.

This manual calls the next plug X16, and shows it leaving as pin 20, and an output to the ECU.

Later on in the same diagram, it does mention X20, and says the wiring colour is black/white, although I have a feeling X20 is actually the loom / chassis plug at the engine bay.

The "Cluster" pic should help you out, br/rt =brown/red connected to sw/ws =black/white

ye X20 is def the loom chassis plug in the engine bay, so do you reckon i should be able to jus connect pin 4 of X271 to pin 20 of X16? will get the multimeter out n see if it all connects as it says it is thanks

so looking at the diagram pin 20 of X16 goes on to pin 20 of X20 (6211.0-02)(1997 manual), so this can be ignored?

so the signal comes in on pin 4 of X271 from the speed sensor, and i need to forward this signal onto pin 9 of X20?

have been looking through the wiring manual and just out of curiosity what does pin 9 of X20 do/go to?
