    ok im looking at buying a package of software to diagnose error codes,reset airbag,ect..now ive been looking.and dam i get confused, i do not have unlimited funds, but still want something that works..! especially for the (e36)something fairly easy to use. so can anyone put up some links of what i should be looking for? actual items to buy.. my car was a 1995 318is, now it has a 1996 328i engine in there..am i on the right track with these 2 examples? appriciate ya help

    Depends on how much connectivity you'll be happy with. Ideally you'll want an ADS interface and a laptop with a serial port.

    Don't pay for the software either.

    lol..yea ive read that thread, shame you didnt do one for fu***ng idiot guide.. i will keep reading till it sinks in ive ordered couple of cheap leads. my car is 1995 (was 318is) now 328i angine in.. so i take it as 1996 now.. obd2 correct?

    highly doubtful its OBD2 more likely ADS you will access some modules like engine ECU with a standard OBD2 interface with one of those 15 pin round adaptors but you will not be able to access everything..

    if you have a 15 pin round connector under the bonnet and pin 15 has a pin in it? its an ADS car!, if it hasn't got a pin in 15 its an OBD2 car..

    if you cannot understand the idiots guide mate youve got no chance using or setting up INPA cos that guide is about as idiot proof as it comes...
