There was another post recently about rechargeable batteries in the instrument cluster. NiCd batteries eventually die and so I wonder if this is your problem?

If the cluster test does not work and you changed for a known good cluster either you are doing it wrong or there is some power or earth feed common to all missing.

Check the loom going into the bootlid...Strange place to look I know but there are wires in this part are known to fray and break which can cause a short and the problems you are experiencing. You need to pull the black sheath right down and up so you can properly inspect these wires. It could be where your problem lies.Let us know how you get on

Another place to check is under the carpet under the front passenger seat. There are ground blocks there that can corrode and also cause problems too
