Anyone got any ideas. 1997 1.9 Z3. The zed starts within half a turn, even if it's been standing for a couple of weeks. The engine runs like a dream on tickover and for about 10 minutes after it's been started, then cuts out usually with a backfire ( hence exhaust cat blown in a hundred peices ). Afterwards can take quite a few tries to get started again. I can lay my hands on a code reader, what code should I be looking for.

Just a thought. I had the same problem with a rover 220 turbo. The exhaust had corroded inside. Take the exhaust off where it meets the cat. If it runs ok you will know it is the exhaust.
