    Please Help!

    IM NEW TO ALL THIS

Hi I have BMW E53 X5 3L PETROL I went to fill up the other day and never switched off the engine, filled up as usual 40£ shortly after my engine light came on, as you look at the dash the bottom left hand corner it looks like a block like looking symbol illuminated in yellow, she runs fine no difference in performance any ideas as to why this light could have come on is it cuz air has got into the tank? Winch in case tripped off the computer??? sensor problem ?

Any easy fixes it is booked in for a diagnostic report though really do need some advice before she goes in today?

    How can I reset it

There's a few things that can cause this, soa scan is the best idea, but you might as well double check the filler cap is on tight as this can put the light on.

you say it was brought on in yellow , this usaly means its an imisions fault , prob caused by you running the engine with the tank cap off foran extended period of time , the engine was probley on a tank vent cycle and drawing in too much fresh air , i susect the light is still on as its imissions based and you will have to have the code cleared .

if its the engine shaped light its emissions warning light usually nothing too serious tho on the M54 engine and usually vacuum leaks and a split lower intake hose they dont last much beyond 90-100k and perish...

INPA is way cheaper and easy DIY BMW diagnostics..

Its probably because you filled it with fuel with the engine running/ignition on. A scanner will give you a fault code of 'fuel level sender implausible signal' or similar. Check and clear codes to fix. Small/gradual changes in fuel level are allowed within ecu parameters, large changes are recognized as a fault and sets the eml
