    Hi All,

I have a 2002 330ci and although the Xenon's seem to work fine, sometimes (at least once a day) the dash headlamp (right side) warning light comes on, even though the lights are turned off.

If I turn the lights on the dash warning light will go out after about 3 minutes and stay out until the car is used again without the lights. If I have used the lights continually (for example when it's dark) and the warning light has turned off, I can stop and start the car as many times as I like without the warning light coming back on.

The car has auto headlights which may/may not have anything to do with it. Has anyone experienced a similar issue or has any ideas?

    Thanks

i would start by checking the bulb holder for the sidelight on that side.see if the bulb itself is worn on the contact and gently bend up the contact in the holder.
genuine bm hid's i take it?

Thanks for the prompt response 328mark. I believe they are genuine BMW hid's but I've only just brought the car. There is no headlight level adjustment in the car, so I guess this means auto-levelling. The car is well spec'd so I would assume these are the originals.

Out of interest, what makes you steer towards the side light and not the headlight?

    Thanks

only that i had a sidelight go out...after picking it up from the garage strangely enough...and i know it throws up an obc fault.
and, having fitted aftermarket hid's myself,i know there is no continuity to check in the bulb...its an arc light
if it isn't the sidelight, you'll be looking at a new ballast.

Is the ballast transferable to the other xenon unit on the other side as this would be a good way to test?? If this is possible, the dash light would show the fault on the other light??

    Many thanks

i dont see why not tbh...not as easy a job as checking the sidelight lol.
i know the sidelight bulb turns itself off when the headlights are on...and thought maybe the heat generated by the hid's might tenporarily close up the contacts...worth a try anyway
