I heard a while ago about a safety feature on BMW`s that the front door windows will open when submerged in water, is this true ?.
recently my windows have opened twice, the first time was after a very heavy rain and the windows opened to half way. The second time was last weekend, we went for a run to Windermere, it was quite a nice day but when we got back to the car park and got into the car the windows were open about 10mm.
Any suggestions. I have a 58 plate 530D M sport

I've no idea if its true or not, but I would have thought that expecting anything electric to work underwater might be a touch optimistic. I've also a vague recollection of reading somewhere that if you do somehow find yourself in a submerged car, it will start to fill eventually and when it does, you want to be able to get the windows down as this will make opening the doors easier as you'll be pushing against less water.
