I was told I would have a problem with EWS when putting an m3 engine in my e34. The person telling me couldn't elaborate so what is EWS?

I think you would have more than EWS problems if you are transplanting an engine. The whole ECU will need to be programmed to accept this said engine.

Apparently the ecu plugs are the same and it will fit straight into the old spot.

    Oh dear

Sounds like you have the identical problem that I did when doing my conversion.

My 1992 318is did not have EWS incorporated into the loom. The 1995 M3 donor had EWS so everything plugged in but would not fire.

I had to remove the M3 loom and fit it into my 318is.

What you will have to do is have the EWS wired into your car in order for the car to start.

I created a thread that may assist you? Feel free to PM me if you feel the need
