Firstly real sorry if I should have started this thread in another place but here goes anyway.
I've got a towbar fitted, just to get the damn relay etc to work.
I have a 12N trailer socket fitted and all worked fine using our Landrover. Have wired it as follows:
Relay Yellow near side flash to car blue green
Relay Green off side flash to car blue brown
Relay Brown off side tail to car grey yellow
Relay Red brake to car black green
Relay Black near side tail to car violet grey.
    Relay White to earth
Relay is live via a 15a fuse.
I have re checked the colours from the e46 workshop manual and all seem correct, I have even checked using a circuit tester and they all getting power when using relevant lights, i.e flashers, brake etc but nothing happening to the trailer apart from near side flashers.

    I am out of ideas,
    Help greatly appreciated

    hey up mate

so do you wire this box to the exisiting bmw loom and out of the box goes to your trailer socket?
You got the necassary feeds at the trailer socket? have you got feeds going into your relay but not out of it? when you got your trailer plugged in, have you checked for the relevant feeds at the light units themselves at the back of the trailer?

I'm an auto electrician and we wire up towing sockets a lot, just want to know a bit more bout the 'relay'? why is it through a 15 amp fuse? you got a caravan or just a trailer?

On normal 7 core wiring to a tow socket, theres no battery positive. i can get you a plain and simple socket and 7 core wiring mate if you want

On a e46 genuine tow bar kit you have to install a wiring loom from the rear up to the light control module, you also have to code the light control module otherwise it will not work correctly. If you have parking distance sensors you also have to code the module for this, otherwise it picks up what you are towing
