I haven't the foggiest on this one I'm afraid

I should imagine there may be sensor plugs that are different. I swapped an M51 engine into my touring in place of an M51 and there was a slight difference on the air flow sensor. Mine had a meter fitted into one of the induction pipes and the replacement was just a sensor bolting into the bottom of the inlet manifold.

Also, one engine had a self levelling oil thingy ma bobby on the bottom of the sump and the other did not

What is the reason you are wanting to do this???

What years are the engines that you are thinking about putting in?

The loom with the two round plugs, do they both attach to the the side of the fuse box?

    M52 gearbox will bolt up.

As for m52 wiring loom, don't know for sure but I'd say that it will work, they did do a 323ti which was a m52 after all. (2.5 litre engine.)
