Hi I will start by explaining my intentions.

I want to do a LED swap mod on my speedo cluster (2004 E53).

I have purchased a used cluster and just want to try and clarify the swap procedure.
Once I have swapped the LED's and installed a blank M35080 chip, can I just plug in the modified cluster and LCM and EWS will update the mileage and VIN in the new blank M35080 automatically?

Or should I do a backup with PA Soft 1.4, then do a restore after I install the new cluster?

I dont want to touch or modify my original cluster and keep it as a backup incase anything goes wrong.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

If the part numbers for the cluster are the same, it might be easier just swapping the M35080 onto the other clocks.
The mileage won't auto update, but you can try backing up the eeprom and then try programming it to the second cluster.

If I pre programmed the vin and mileage into the new m35080 before I soldered it to the new cluster, would I need to do any other coding?

    Thanks

Have you got an M35080 programmer?
You can change the VIN in them as much as you like, but the mileage is in the first few sections as incremental registers, which means you can make them bigger/add to them, but you can't make them smaller.

    Yes I have a m35080 programmer.

The problem I have is that the used cluster I have, has a higher mileage than my current one.

So if I program a new m35080 chip with my current mileage and vin, all I will need to do is copy the zke using pa soft?

With bmw scanner, sync the ike to the zcs contained in the ews.
Then remove the cluster and code the chip with the mileage.
