first off , whats the fault with your car , i can see we are looking at engine data , second , when using diagnostic tools, either what we have BMW ISIS, system using ISIDs , or snap on type tools. they only give you a area of the fault to look at , and it can be a mistake to take what they say for gospell .

P0505 code is an indication that your iac control motor is defective

it could be your idle speed control valve , as mrwhite says , but i would check for an air leak first as this would also put this fault code up . i see your car is a 318i year 2000 . do you know what engine you have in it mate , is it a single cam engine , or double cam shaft with vanos , and valvetronic ?

if its a m43 , i would go for the breather valve and pipe at the back of the intake manifold, if the breather is knackerd you should be able to hear air sucking , from the opening on the top of it . its not unknown for the pipe coming from it to be split as well . theses in my opinion are the most common faults with this motor .

hi thanks for your replys yes its the m43 engine , and i have changed the pipe at the back and all the little ones at the front , the fault code im getting now is fuel trim bank 1 no lights on !! and i think the idel problem has sorted its self out i took the throttle body apart and cleaned it ( was very dirty ) and took the little idle control valve off the side of the throttle body and cleaned that as well dirty as well !!! cleaned the maf sensor , so just dont know about that fault code !!

sorry mate did your replace the breather ? i think its held in place with two 5mm allen screws , i am sure that your problem, not the pipe , its that part you can here it sucking air , its a common fault ,
