    Hi Guys.

My BMW 320D 2005 E90 needs a new battery. Been told that BMW has made life complicated for all and requires a battery to be programmed to the vehicle or what not.

    True or B.S?

My mate at work had to change his battery on the same model car last week he had a flat battery but that caused a problem with the immobilser and couldnt restart it so had to re-programme it im not sure if this is the same for just changing battery though seems long winded

Just spoke to my mate at work he said he got stung for price of a new battery plus £80 to reprogramme it as it had disabled all his keys too so had to get both keys re-programmed by the car sales garage he bought the car from what a joke

Thanks...im wondering if my mate got stung then £80+ to programme surely any back street garage can do it on their software for normal £25-50 diagnostic fee

Or is it more complex than that?

I would think it would need BMW specific diagnostics Gold

You don't have to do any coding when you change the battery. You should register the battery replacement in DIS which supposedly changes the battery charge profile to suit the new battery, though I think this is bullshit. Certainly never noticed any change in the running voltage on my car before and after battery replacement.

If it does need coding, what a load of nonsense that is!

I will have a word with a BMW indie soon and he see what he has to say.
