    I believe this is called the 'ECM Harness multi-plug'.
    Can someone please help me find where it is located in my E46 318i?
    I've Googled it and turned up nothing.

    That picture above is the ECU, it's in the e-box, which is a black plastic box under the bonnet at the base of the windscreen.

    I popped the top off this:

    But couldn't see anything without ripping the electronic modules out.
    Can you please confirm that I've got the right place? Do I need to pull out the modules to get to the socket?

    Yes, that's it, and the large bundle of wires you will see are the plugs that go into that socket.
