    Hi,
I have recently bought a 1998 328i SE and have got down to sorting its various faults and missing bits.
Thanks to this forum i have identified and fixed many of them, but lying in the engine bay behind the washer bottle is the component shown.
Can someone tell me what it is and where it has come from?
    Thanks

Its the temperature sensor for the heated screen washers. It should clip into a panel under the right hand bumber. Many of these panel get ripped off on low kerbs and this sensor as well as the outside air temperature sender that lives under the left hand side of the front bumper, end up dangling in mid air.
    I hope this helps.

    Yep, that correct.

It would sit in a brake duct, and these frequently disappear.
The opposite duct will have an ambient temp sensor, which will look like a little black spike and that give the temp to the inside OBC.

Thanks for that guys. The first i found dangling and looked up on here was the ambient temp sensor and the duct is missing.
Nothing major at least so i can tuck it away safely for a while now i know what it is.
