Hi everybody, I'm new here and actually turning 15 next week, where I'll have my permit, and hopefully be getting my moms car, which is a 98 328i. She got it from one other friends sons (idk why, sounds weird to me too lol) and it had this great sounding exhaust on it. She had changed it unfortunately but I'll check another thread for that. My questions are, are the LCD displays in the car repairable? or are they replaceable only? I'm asking because the main display under the spedo only displays the top half of every number (not very well anyways) and the radio display is so dim, you can't read it in sunlight. Any way to fix this? because for the spedo-splay If I press on the plastic a bit, it will become normal again. Thx in advance.

    The glass is definitely cracked.

I'm aware that is is not normally possible to buy such a component at a normal hardware store. However, Where I work, I do have access to both a clean-room and some semiconductor fab resources.

That stated, is there any way to etch a replacement sheet of glass? I would imagine that replacing it consists of the simple (if non trivial) task of getting some glass, cleaning it, Applying a conductive coating (could vacuum deposition be used?) then applying a mask (Photolithography?) and then etching it.

I moved this summer so I had lost my jobs with computers. I've seen plenty of cracked LCD screens, and I can tell you that not one of them is cracked in the car.
