Hi all, I have a 2004 e46 touring and its not had the central locking working for some time until recently when I sent the gm5 module off for repair.
Now it just works intermittently, so it will lock/unlock a few times and then it will just stop working for a few times ... It always locks/unlocks with the console button now though which it didn't always do.

Any thoughts or tests I can do? I've tried to recode the keys but can't seem to have any success!

Yes I have, the keys used to work, I replaced the battery in both fobs a couple of years ago, I suppose I could make sure the voltage in them is good. Anything else it could be?

You can buy a key radio tester from ebay.

Also I don't if its worth mentioning, but for the last couple of months my keys have been acting intermittently, but only outside my house.
I can park a few houses along and its fine, also when out and about the remote works every time.
The same happens with my neighbours 5 series.
So basically there is something local that is interfering with the signals.

That sound as if it could be somebody's wi-fi, or something else that uses RF. I have heard of an RF doorbell that kept on sounding when it felt like it. Turned out to be a cheap nasty that had not passed British Radio Transmitter Regulations. It was responding to next doors wireless central heating thermostat, so when it called for heat and sent a signal to the boiler, the doorbell also picked it up, and "ding dong"!!!
As far as the intermittent remote central locking is concerned, its an RF problem. See if there are more people affected in the area, if there is, get together and contact OfCom, they will advise.
