    Hi All

One of our Headlights stopped working the other day. So I've replaced the bulb (at a jaw dropping £50!) and found the light still not working

Checked the fuses, all ok there

So what do we check next? Is the Ignitor the next likely suspect?

Would this fault be picked up by plugging the car into the diagnostic? Thus saving the chance of exchanging more parts only to find they may not have been the issue..

    Any advice very welcome

Could you swap from left to right and see if the problem follows?

That's a good idea. Does the headlight need to come out to get to them?

It is tight but I think you should have enough room. I have to do mine on the weekend so wont know till then. Not sure what the bulbs are like but don't touch the glass. Use a nice dry & clean cloth if you have to.

    Update:

You can get to remove the HID Ballast/Igniter unit without removing the headlight (which means removing the front bumper too!) Just drop the arch liners down to get to the underside of the headlight. The Igniter fits under the headlight.

I have removed my Igniter's and swapped them over side to side, and the fault moves with the Igniter. I'm now looking to find a replacement part, anyone know the part number for the the Igniter?

Price for one from BMW is a jaw dropping £283! - and they can't give me a part number :(

A replacement Ballast/Ignitor has been ordered from HID4U, fingers crossed that cures the problem. The Part No is LAD5G

All this 'looks' to have been caused by a missing spring clip which secures the cover on the back on the headlight. Although the cover was still in place, and secured at the opposite side as it should be.. I think a little water has got in there, found its way to the expensive bit and set up camp :(

Check you have a spring clip on BOTH sides of your headlights folks!!!!!!!!!!!!
