Hi there i'm Rik I work for a BMW/MERC specialist in Liverpool I just bought a BMW-WDS 12 cd off ebay as I moved jobs
and they didn't have the cd so I got one for us but there is a problem it doesn't show the left side of the selection of the diagrams where you select the DRIVE/CHASSIS/BODY diagrams its just a blank white screen it is usually in green I can select which vehicle diagrams I require but when it gets to the page I have explained about it says application blocked the name:stree
location: file:/D:/release/en/e70/ and says your security setting has blocked a application from running I've turned my firewall off
I've installed java 7 update 25,adobe reader I have internet explorer 10 aswell.
Has anyone had this problem using the BMW-WDS cd I us the cd and not the online version as it works better and has all the
    content.

Hope someone can help as this is my holy bible of fixing wiring faults

    Thanks a lot...............Rik

P.S If anyone requires any help or info about BMW's MERC'S MINI'S just ask I've been working on them for the last 10 years......

Try uninstalling the java update or running wds on google chrome.
Also I have a question for you, will knackered bump stops on all four shocks on a e46 saloon make the car feel horrible going over even the slightest bit of rough road.
If you know what I mean. When the front wheels meet a bit of rough road sometimes its felt in the steering wheel with a knock.
Same thing with the rear and this is with only me in the car.The rear is better when there is a bit of weight in the car.
Example of what I mean by rough road is where sometimes you would see a bald patch on the road where the stones have been worn away, well when my car meets these spots its
like the car is driving on the cobbles of coronation street.Surely the car should ride over these bad patches much better than it does.Car has 133k miles up and I know its probably time for
new shocks all round anyway but im just wondering what are the symptoms of knackered bump stops(the foamy things on the top of the shocks).

Hi there mate bump stops won't make your ride feel bad can you tell me if you have standard shocks on or after market ones, you need to
check your brake reaction bushes on the front they are the ones that are at the back of the wishbones they bolt to the chassis if they are soft/split
you will get movement from them and they feel horrible, jack the car up and see if you can move the wheel forward and backwards easily towards the back of the vehicle if you can they are worn out they usually split so you can have a look at them to see if that is so.
Now the rears, are the springs ok check that they haven't broke a coil of the springs if so replace, now you need to check your z arm bushes which are the swinging bushes to you normals its the ones that have a bracket with them in and the bracket bolts to the chassis with three bolts if there worn they allow the swinging to move and knock the bracket,so go and check these and let me know how they are buddy................hope I helped.........Rik

Plus while I remember check your front anti roll bar link rod balljoints they wear and knock really bad.
You can do a shock absorber bounce test which is bounce them and let go they should bounce 1to 1-1/2 times if that is so they are ok plus check for leaks......................cheers Rik

    Thanks for the reply rik
Front control arm(wishbone)bushings are new and droplinks are also fresh.
Only thing is my car has 133k on what I can presume is original shocks.
Springs on the back are fine and rear bushings seem ok too(no excess play when pulling on them).
Don't think the bounce test is very reliable on bmws,so I read somewhere.
Could it be the steering coloum coupler flex disc?
When I grab the steering wheel and move it quickly from left to right I can hear a knocking sound from the steering coloum somewhere
in the engine bay also there is play where the coloum enters the rack,is that play normal?

Hi there fella ok so there all ok a bounce test will work on any suspension so just see if they are soft by bouncing them if they aren't soft they are ok,you could have worn track control arms wiggle your left and right to test them if you feel something worn hold the track control arm and see if you can feel movement,a track control arm is the arms that the track rod ends go on to its the balljoint that wears in the track control arm.
I have replaced loads of e36 column bushes which are located at the top and the bottom of the column tube you could grab the column to rack link u/j to see if they have wear in them.
You could check the column to rack u/j aswell i have replaced 1 maybe 2 in ten years so don't really wear bad,go check these and let me know........good luck.............Rik

    Hi rik
If I grab the lower coloum and shake it it will make a knocking sound and where the coloum enters the rack there is a bit of play there.
If I shake the steering wheel I can hear a knocking in the engine bay.
This car has only recently been through the irish nct and no problems reported.
If I shake the front wheels in the 3 and 9 positions there is no signs of any play.
    And my car is a e46 not a e36.

Hi I know that your car is a e46 they are pretty much the same chassis just a different body so most things are the same, I said I've done them on e36's meaning I've not done them on e46's,with a vehicle with 133k on it you will feel like the vehicle isn't tight any more and you get slight knocks and feel the steering/suspension movement doesn't mean that something is excessively worn or a mot failure the checks they do on a irish NCT are only at a safety level like a UK mot not like a service level of checking I know this as I i'm a mot tester and the level is a joke you have to pass things at buddy.
All I can say to you is to check things and replace them if worn, its hard to diagnose something without driving it myself and feeling what you are on about ok......................Good Luck Rik

Bsically the car doesn't feel tight, the whole front end just feels sloppy and loose when meeting little bumps and bad road surface.
Sometimes hitting a small bump can make the steering wheel turn slightly towards the wheel that hit the bump.
That's the best way I can describe the car.
And I know the nct isn't the end all and be all but surely play in ball joints and bushings would be picked up on and advised accordingly, then again maybe not.
I understand you cant diagnose fully over a computer but I was just hoping that my descriptions may point at something fairly common or
obvious to a mechanic but I know there are too many variables when locating faults in the suspension.
I guess ill start by replacing the shocks anyway and work my way through things as the car will need a good overhaul now at 133k.
Thanks anyway rik mate for your time
