    Hi,
Ive recently purchased a second 3 series (1999 318i SE) to potter around in, the car is absolutely spot on apart from the dash. I have a few different problems but the main ones are the lack of the flashing green arrows and the clicking sound that should be present when the indicators are on(all the external lights are working perfectly). Also there are no lights showing on the dash to tell me when the headlights/main beams/Fog lights are on. Most of the other warning lights such as engine management, ABS etc are all working fine.
Done the basics and checked all the fuses, they all look fine. Hoping a new clock set wont be needed but iv'e been told that the dash clocks aren't interconnected to the immobiliser so a straight replacement may be possible without to much hastle? Hoping someone might be able to confirm this or tell me different if that's not the case.
Any help or cause/solution info would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers,
    Tom

It could be the Light Control Module maybe?

Trouble is if it is the LCM or the clocks set they are coded to the cars VIN. Swap either out and you'll get a tamper warning dot appear next to the mileage. Do check this though as my info is from a different model...

    Cheers Dan,
Is the car you mention later than mine(1999).Ive been told later models from around 2001ish are as you say, harder to replace?
Don't suppose you have any idea if the clocks can be repaired rather than replaced?

My experience with the LCM is actually based around my experience from a 2003 Range Rover, they use all BMW gear. Even the same dash binacle...

Have you tried doing the "Self Tests" on the cluster to see if everything lights up as it should? A quick google of "BMW Cluster Test" brings up this info: INFO: E46 Instrument Cluster Test - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum

Give that a try and report back

Where are you? West midlands is a bit big. If you are anywhere near me, or pass by, You could plug in and run diagnostics.

Ive just done the clock test and all the lights seem to be working fine.
Guessing this is pointing to a module being faulty?
Anybody have any idea if this will be the body control module or the lamp control module?
Im based in West Bromwich so Rugby is a bit out of the way for me.
    Cheers,
    Tom

A bit off topic but I have also got engine management light on at the moment and the codes it is coming up with are:
    P00A9
    P00AB
Can anyone tell me what these are in relation to, Ive been told that it is possibly down to Cat efficiency?
    Thanks Again

Just another quick issue ive noticed which i think may be connected to the possible BCM fault. The central locking will work perfectly to unlock the car and open the boot but it intermittantly works when locking. From reading some of the threads on here it seems like the Body Control Module is connected to the issues I'm having with the dash and also the central locking......Can anyone confirm that the module in question does control the dash and central locking?

    Cheers,
    Tom
