hi guys i hope i can pick your brains on my e39 525d 2001 .
its started to develop intermittant starting problem .
first of all it would crank and not fire up then would suddenly cure itself for a few days (no codes).
but today it actually cut out while i was driving it and would then only crank over at the side of the road but this time the TEMPERATURE NEEDLE went over to max even though the engine had not overheated , the red temp warning light never iluminated .
i called the AA and he could not fix it or even communicate with the dde system so he towed it home , on parking the car up on my drive i turned the ignition on to push it i noticed that the temp gauge no longer went over to the max. guess what..the car started first turn !!!. has anybody got any ideas what would cause the temp gauge to go over and the car to stop? im assuming its a loose connection which was jolted by towing the car but where ???.
i cant trust the car until i fine something physicaly wrong and any help would be appreaciated...dave
