ive done all the engine swap everything is in and ready to go its just the immobiliser thats stopping me driving away the starter motor cranks but i have no spark or fuel

will getting the ews 3d module aligned with the ecu work because bmw are assuring me that it cannot be done. due to the ecu/dme coming from a different car.(but the guy wasn't really sure)

    heres the specs

    2000 e36 318ti with ews 3.d

m52 2.8 single vanos engine + loom with dme/ecu - ews 2 module - ring antenna - key. all from 328i donor car

(i cant use the ews 2 unit from the donor car because the wiring at the plug is different and i don't have something called the "send/receive module" and wiring is definitely not my strong point so i don't want to start cutting the loom about if i can help it unless someone can give me step by step instructions on how to convert my car from ews 3d to ews 2.)

how can i get my car working easily, cheaply and as quickly as posible

I think the 3D should align, it is the EWS3, but it is acting in EWS2 mode which means you should be able to align them as much as you like.
Options are trying the alignment, wiring in the Send/receive box and adding the EWS2 in as original, or you can send the ECU to me and I can delete the EWS from the ECU providing it is a later approx 1996/7 onwards car.

well atm im thinking of trying the alignment because i have someone who thinks he can do it and only wants 30 pound and will only charge me if it works only problem is getting the car to him when it wont start

but if it doesn't work i want a backup plan do you know how to wire in the send/receive box because i have no idea what it is or where it goes but i am in the process of making an adapter to go between the loom and ews 2 module that i will have to wire it into.

i'm not to sure about sending it off to be honest i want to get the car back on the road as soon as possible but if it came to it what would it include and how much as i'm very nearly out of money for this project

I don't think there is an easy or cheap way. One alternative is to get a transmitter/receiver module (61358379502 / old number 61358362337) and wire it properly to that EWS2 module and ring antenna. Other alternative is to get a set of engine ECU (MS42), EWS3 module and keys from another donor post 3/97.

I don't know if there is any way to make a DME pre 3/97 work with EWS3 module even if the EWS module is programmed with the correct ISN number of the DME. One thing is sure, dealer measures can't help you with this.

Sending it off to me would cost you £40.
In the other post you've commented on, there is a collection of pinouts.

The send receive module has 2 plugs on it, one is a 3 pin, power, gorund and data, the other is 2 pin and goes to the EWS ring.

is the send receive unit coded into the ews 2 or can i use one from any car

also what should i do with this wire on the ews 2 conector:

Pin 15 - 0.35mm Black/Green CODE function from OBC. Grounding this wire stops the vehicle starting

as i don't have an obc

The send receive is uncoded, so any will do, the CODE wire can be left open/unconnected, only if it is grounded will is stop the car from starting.
