Does that car have some kind of anti trap for the windows?
By anti trap I mean that if the window meets resistance when closing as in a childs finger or head that the window will stop and go back down a few centimetres.
I know you have a vert but in the saloons the anti trap is in the plastic frame on the very top of the door but the anti trap system may be different in a vert if in fact a vert even has the anti trap.

It sounds like they are doing what they should do When you open a door on a coupe (and I think its the same on a 'vert, both have frameless doors) the windows drop slightly, to allow the glass to come away from the seal. When you close it the window goes up slightly, back into the seal.
The anti trap on a coupe is in the door seal on the body, I think the 'vert does it by sensing excess motor current.
Of course they shouldnt move without a button press!

Hi I have encountered a strange problem on my 2001 318 Ci coupe. When I unlock the car all front windows will drop fully and back windows will open. I can prevent this by pressing the unlock button twice. However sometimes it just ignores the command and continues to drop.

When I lock the car (keep pressing on the middle lock/unlock button) front windows will go back up but back windows won't close.

I have replaced the locking pin in the barrel by using a cheap version from Ebay. Would that be causing the problem.

    Please help.....

its a known problem , the door micro switches wear and the window shuttles up and down , you can usealy test it by closeing the door with the window up and push the door further on to the catch , and you will see the glass shuttle up and down as you put the pressuer on and off the door

It's not the anti trap it's most likely the switch in the door striker plate on the B pillar as others mentioned. This drops the window roughly 1cm when the door opened and closed and usually stops working. From the description It sounds like this switch is worn and the flexing of the vert body is sufficient for it to activate as it flexes.

My wife's solution was to fold an old parking ticket and stick it to it. Been working perfectly for a year or so like that
