Right so I had my car (2007 e90 330d) parked up over the winter, and when I decided to start it, it wouldn't start, so I figured the battery must be dead which is understandable, so tried jump starting it myself, no luck there. Called green flag out, they came connected their van to try a jump start, still nothing. The lights came one, it cranked over but just wouldn't fire up. So had it recovered to a garage, since it has been there we have recharged the battery fully, still nothing. So again recovered the car to an electrical specialist who told me the cas unit is the problem, so we replaced that, still it wouldn't start. So then the garage told me that the ECU is the problem and that it got spiked when the green flag guy tried to jump start it. So that's the situation I'm in at the moment, the car has been to 3 different garages in the past 6 weeks and I've had no luck, so any help or advise from anyone here would be much appreciated.
What are my options? Can an ECU be repaired if its been spiked? Can I buy a second hand one and recode it to my car? If anyone has any experience with this problem I would really appriciate any help at all.

    Thanks

I drive a recovery truck and have learned a few tricks on the way, some I have been told, others I have found out the hard way. On Jags it is recommended that the donor car does not have engine running, When batteries are connected..have the keys for car to be started in your hand, 'cos the central locking may trigger. For car with dead battery, first switch on something to absorb the spike, like a heater motor on full, NOT headlamps, 'cos they too may blow. And on some Renaults the spike is recorded, and yes unfortunately, the ECU can be damaged. I have bought my wife a little gadget that connects cigar lighters between the two cars, so she can charge or be charged by other cars with no risk. It takes a while, but is fool proof, and you don't get your hands dirty, let alone worry about which cable is connected first. And hey,Yusuf87, good luck with yours
